Alan was the most astounding Engineer that I've ever had the the pleasure to work with.
Geotech, Structures or Contracts he just blitzed it all, it was in his bones; so so bright.
He could put the most complex of philosophies into 'simplex'; such that we could all understand.
The man just had that gift. Never arrogant, never dismissive; always aiding our futures....
As graduates, at lunchtime, he'd bring his sandwiches over and have a chat.
Yes, he did spit his sandwich all over you as he talked, this was Allan; not a problem, he was schooling us.
Simple things, about family and the future, where we might wish to go forward in life; how best to achieve it, an easy conversation.
Always absorbing what you'd said/implied; latterly making it work for you, always.
Slow to chide and quick to bless.
Alan, my friend, we all miss you; both family and friends.
All of the graduates, both past and present will miss your greatly; as will do I.
You, due to your schoolings, have enabled many to reach high heights in their careers; you're to be applauded.
I can't try to say in words what I feel, except this:
Take care my friend
